EGEUS ETS
WORKSHOP OF THERAPEUTIC ENDOSONOGRAPHY - Live Demonstrations
Scientific Rationale
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound has moved many procedures that once required surgery or
interventional radiology into the endoscopy room. This half-day workshop, part of the 4th edition of
News in Gastroenterology, is designed for gastroenterologists, endosonographers, interventional
endoscopists, trainees and endoscopy nurses. Through live demonstrations performed by international
and national experts, with real-time commentary and open discussion, participants will follow the full
workflow of current therapeutic EUS procedures – from indication and patient selection to device choice,
technique and management of complications.
WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
•Observe the step-by-step technique of EUS-guided biliary drainage (hepaticogastrostomy) and
EUS-guided gastroenteroanastomosis.
•Compare drainage of pancreatic fluid collections with plastic stents and lumen-apposing metal stents
(LAMS): indications, technique and outcomes.
•Understand the principles and practical use of shear wave and strain elastography and
contrast-enhanced EUS in the characterisation of pancreatic tumors.
•Learn the indications and technique of EUS-guided radiofrequency ablation of pancreatic
neuroendocrine tumors.
•Review the EUS-guided treatment of gastric varices with coil embolization and cyanoacrylate
(Histoacryl) injection.
•Identify the materials and devices used in therapeutic EUS and discuss potential pitfalls and
complications.
EDUCATIONAL METHODS
•Seven live demonstrations transmitted from the endoscopy unit to the amphitheatre.
•Real-time expert commentary and interactive Q&A during each case.
•Focused technical lecture on EUS elastography.
•Round-table discussion with the faculty.
